Atalanta Corp
Atalanta Corporation, Elizabeth NJ | 410 kW Non-Penetrating Solar Rooftop Array
Scope of Work
SunDurance has completed the construction of a 410 kW non-penetrating rooftop solar generation system for Atalanta Corporation, a multi-national food importer headquartered in Elizabeth, New Jersey. The system, comprised of 1,790 solar panels covering both the north and south-facing roofs, and is expected to produce approximately 460,000 kWh of electricity annually. The system will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 330 metric tons annually and is the equivalent to taking over 60 passenger vehicles off the road each year.
Brief Description of Effort
This standing seam metal roof is typically a perfect place for solar, as the panels can be affixed to the roof with zero roof penetrations by simply clamping the mounting rails to the metal seams. The challenge on this project was to maximize power output in a limited space to achieve maximum energy savings for the customer. Typically, a PV system would only be installed on the south side of a pitched roof. Because the pitch of the roof was relatively shallow, our engineering team designed the system utilizing both the north and the south sides of the roof thereby doubling the system size. The panels on the north are tilted up at 5 degrees and inter-row spacing is used to avoid shading from the adjacent row. The panels on the south were mounted flush to the roof with no inter-row spacing.
Our construction team was able to install the panels with no impact to the day-to-day business activities (especially the very active loading dock) through the tactical staging of materials and equipment and by effectively communicating with on-site management.
