PROJECTS
NJMC Landfill
New Jersey Meadowlands Commission Landfill 1A | Kearny, NJ | 3 MW System
Scope of Work
SunDurance Energy was awarded the project thru public bid procurement in December, 2009 from the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission. Since that time SunDurance has been developing Landfill 1A in the Hackensack Meadowlands District into a productive solar farm that will generate up to 3 megawatts of clean, cost-effective electricity. The landfill project demonstrates the power of partnership between the government and the private sector. It required the collective will and vision of the NJMC, New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, New Jersey Departments of Environmental Protection and Community Affairs, the US Department of Energy, PSE&G, and SunDurance. The project is a prime example and advances the Governor’s call for increased solar landfill projects as an important element of his Energy Master Plan.
Brief Description of Effort
SunDurance designed a system that optimizes the energy output based upon the southern exposure of the landfill by optimizing 13-acres on top of the 35-acre landfill. The project is a grid-connected solar installation with interconnection in the PJM grid system. SunDurance worked with the NJMC on a finance model of a 20-year ground lease payment to the commission and then bid the project into PSE&G’s Solar-4-All program and reached definitive terms to purchase the project at commissioning from SunDurance.
The project was awarded with an ARRA grant from the NJ Board of Public Utilities and as such was built with “Buy American” equipment.
